Gus has no business stirring things up any more over at P&Z. Fellow Commissioners Rick Currie and Katie Brodie should put a stop to it now. This whacky move reflects on them, too. If Gus wants to audition for a job for next January, I'm sure Kathryn Tacke at Job Service has a list of jobs for which he's more qualified. .
The United States and the Environment: Laggard or Leader?
If there is one country that bears the most responsibility for the lack of progress on international environmental issues, it is the United States. --Gus Speth, Red Sky at Dawn[1] Sadly, our nation is also at present the biggest engine of ecological destruction on Earth, the chief (but by no means only) force keeping humanity on collision course with the natural world. --Paul and Anne Ehrlich, One with Nineveh[2] U.S. Given Poor Marks on the Environment --New York Times headline, January 23, 2008 To borrow the blunt language of Generation X and the "Millennials," does the United States suck when it comes to the environment? Contrary to the perception expressed in the epigraphs above, the answer turns out to be a resounding No; the United States remains the world's environmental leader and is likely to continue as such.
More Act 309 inmates needed, board member says
Jay Campbell was sentenced to 40 years in prison and his wife received a 20 year sentence. Also former Lonoke Mayor Thomas Privett pleaded no contest to theft of services, a misdemeanor, for having state inmates perform chores at his home."Those are issues of the past," Jones said Tuesday. "I don't see those types of issues now. Currently, the state pays counties $28 a day to hold state inmates because of overcrowding in the state system.Board member Mary Parker said she did not want the board to be viewed as advocating the association's effort, while member Leroy Brownlee urged the board to support the association.
Why Is Bush Ignoring the History of Slavery? What You Said About His ...
It is never too late to tell the truth. We all know that the Bush family is not the only family that were slave owners … slaves made them very rich men and that has been passed on to future generations. I feel that it is about time that the truth be told. I think when that truth is told and made a part of our history books, Black and white people can begin to discuss the sad part of our history in an open and honest way that might bring us together as American people. --Theodore Thomas How long do we have to keep talking about who did what and what is it that is so important that this time to talk about President Bush's family as slave owners [sic]? Does this do anything for the current world? We need to stop dividing the country and stop preaching Republicans are evil and Democrats are good.

UV exposure is the leading cause of skin cancer and to avoid overexposure many people protect their body with sunscreen. Unfortunately, if people are protected the coral reefs suffer. A new study finds that chemicals in sunscreen wash off swimmers and awaken dormant viruses inside coral reefs. Researchers from the online journal Environmental Health Perspectives estimate that "4,000 to 6,000 metric tons of sunscreen wash off swimmers annually in oceans worldwide, and that up to 10 percent of coral reefs are threatened by sunscreen-induced bleaching."
