Sky Italia for IPO?

It has made offers to Barcelona and Real Madrid to exclusively acquire their TV rights for around E120 million per year each, (doubling their current TV revenues), from the 2008-2009 season for a five year period. Mediapro is also in talks with other important football teams, like Valencia and Atletico de Madrid.

With this move, Mediapro (La Sexta) is challenging Sogecable, owner of DTH platform Digital Plus, which currently controls most of the football TV rights in Spain through its subsidiary Audiovisual Sport. La Sexta is betting on football to make itself room in the Spanish TV market in a very short time. It has already acquired this summers World Cup rights for around E100m.

Graham couple gunned down without warning

TACOMA, Wash. -- Pierce County prosecutors on Tuesday filed aggravated murder charges against the man accused of killing a young couple in their Graham home. Daniel Thomas Tavares Jr. pleaded not guilty to the charges, which carry the possibility of the death penalty. He's being held without bail. Prosecutors have 30 days to decide whether to seek the death penalty. According to a statement of probable cause filed in court, Tavares admitted to detectives that he shot Brian and Beverly Mauck last weekend in their home and tried to cover up the crime. The court documents state that Tavares said he went to collect a $50 debt from Brian Mauck on Saturday morning and became upset when Mauck insulted him.Tavares, 41, said he wasn't going to put up with being called a name "after spending 20 years in prison" and shot Brian in the face with a .22-caliber handgun, according to the documents.

Kids Huff Freon to Get High

CARBONDALE, Ill. - During these 'dog days of summer' air conditioning units are working overtime trying to keep homes and offices cooled down.

But many of those air conditioning units are becoming the target of kids wanting to drain the freon gas from inside and inhale it, sometimes with deadly results.

"They feel a euphoria, light-headiness and they may pass out. But it's that euphoria that they're going after. Unfortunately what these kids don't know is there is long term damage to the body from breathing in freon gas," said Doctor Donna Carney at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Authorities say the way the kids are using the gas to get high is by placing a plastic bag over their head. Then they fill the bag with freon gas. It's heavier than oxygen so it forces the oxygen out of the bag, leaving only the dangerous gas.

B-N's first 'smart fortwo' car hits streets

McDaniel is smiling, too. After a nearly yearlong wait, he has the Twin Cities' first “smart fortwo" car. He picked it up in St. Louis on Monday and spent most of the day Tuesday showing it off to friends and co-workers.“I think it's great," said John Rediger, heating and air conditioning supervisor at Country Insurance. “I think it's absolutely fantastic. It's got plenty of room."You wouldn't guess it from the outside. The car, which only measures 8.8 feet long, 5.1 feet tall and 5.1 feet wide, takes up only half a parking space.“It only looks small from the outside," McDaniel said. “It's half of car. It has three cylinders instead of six and weighs 1,700 pounds instead of 3,400."That leads to decent gas mileage — 41 miles per gallon on the highway and 33 miles per gallon in town. (It uses premium gasoline.)“It has an 8-gallon tank, and I had 200 miles on it and still had half of tank of gas," McDaniel said. It's also ecologically friendly. The smart fortwo, produced in France by smart, a subsidiary of Daimler-Benz AG, is painted with water-soluble paints.

Dudes with attitude problems

If this was the same bus that resort to the misdemeanors as described above, it certainly had one hell of an attitude problem. But if it happens to be one of many practising these things as if it was second nature, we have a hell of an attitude problem.
A letter from Kumbaeyer in New Ireland province yesterday showed perhaps another facet of this problem: "Recently, while I was in Mt Hagen, I got the shock of my life when I decided to take a stroll from the Highlander Hotel to the main town centre. Using the route from the coffee market lawn heading towards the Family Centre church and court house, I noticed some cars parked on the lawn. But on closer inspection, I noticed used oil, filters and other used vehicle servicing components were scattered on the lawn. I then realised that these people were servicing their vehicles on the lawn.
